Mark Sass takes a look at the games this weekend around the league.
Hey Titans Ever On readers, Phill Lytle here. I am hoping this will become a weekly installment. Good friend and occasional Rambling Ever On contributor, Mark Sass, will be handling the heavy lifting on these. Hope you guys enjoy his look and commentary for this week’s games around the league.

Trying to figure out what went wrong.
Welcome to my nightmare. Of all the potential scenarios for the 2019 season, the one that is playing out before our eyes is of the worst-case variety. Even if you were out on Marcus Mariota prior to this season, as a Tennessee Titans’ fan, this is not what you wanted. At least, I hope it’s not. But, for those of us who believed Mariota was the answer at quarterback, this season has been hard to deal with.

I’m not sure I have ever felt this low as a Titans fan. Even during the Ken Whisenhunt era, things did not seem this bad. That is not to say this team is as bad as those teams were, because it’s not. But with high expectations and plenty of off-season optimism, the way this season has unfolded has proven to be massively disappointing. Even that feels like an understatement.

How I am feeling about Mike Vrabel.
This usually runs on Monday. It didn’t because I took the day off to spend time with my family. So, it will now run on Tuesday. I hope that is not too upsetting or confusing for anyone out there. If it is, I would like to apologize for any feelings of confusion or stress this decision may have caused. I deeply regret my actions.

I am busy with my real job so I am going to keep these simple. In fact, I think that needs to be the theme of the game for the Tennessee Titans as well: Keep things simple.
Win 1st and 2nd down.
When the Titans are successful on 1st and 2nd down, everything about their offense functions better. That seems obvious but it goes deeper than simply picking up good yardage on the early downs. The Titans have a bad habit of putting themselves in 3rd and long far too often. That is what they need to correct. They did a much better job in this area against the Falcons last week and I would like to see them make that a trend going forward.
They don’t need to get huge chunk plays on 1st and 2nd down but they cannot afford negative plays either.

New Feature! Today, we tackle bad NFL journalism.
I’m hoping this will become a new feature for Titans Ever On. Every week or so, I plan on throwing out an idea, a discussion point, or an observation regarding the Tennessee Titans or the NFL in general. As the name implies, these articles are going to be short and sweet.

Don’t overreact! Don’t overreact! Don’t overreact!
It wasn’t a perfect game but the Tennessee Titans did what was necessary to get a road win in Atlanta. I am not taking anything away from the team. They played physical. They played smart. (Most of the time.) But, I want to avoid declaring that all things are great after a big win. This team has plenty of potential. We just need to see it consistently.

Is everyone okay? Have we all recovered from the last week of football? I saw some Twitter warriors postulate that the last week (losing to the Colts and the Jaguars in 5 days) was one of the worst stretches of Titans football ever. How quickly we all forget about the past. In 2014, the Titans ended the season on a 10 game losing streak. Yes, the last two games were incredibly frustrating but let’s not lose our minds about them. Things could be much, much worse.
The Tennessee Titans go into Atlanta this Sunday needing a win. But, possibly even more than that, they need to play a good game. The past two weeks the team has been bad. If they have another bad performance this week, it is going to take something special to pull them out of that spiral. So, if they want to get the train back on the track, here are the three keys to the game against the Falcons.

I have no words in my vocabulary to describe what we saw last night. Well, that is not exactly accurate. I know some words. Some real good words, but this is a family friendly blog and I am a family friendly guy so I don’t use those words. And, since I can’t find the words to help make sense of the absolute embarrassment we witnessed, I will walk you through my reactions using only GIFs, pictures, and memes.

It’s a short week so I’m going to keep my commentary short. These are the three Keys to the game against Jacksonville tonight.
